COP 30, An Innocent Event, or Just Another Emission Act?

Global Warming. The one thing that has been changing our daily lives and turning the simple things we enjoy into things we dread. This is a subject we have avoided talking about for too long. So earlier this month, leaders from all over the world gathered together in the city of Belém to discuss what they could do about it. But will this be enough?

From November the 10th to November the 21st, world leaders like Sir Keir Starmer, the UK prime minister, Emmanuel Macron, president of France, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, and many more gathered in the COP 30 event place to discuss the matters of the Global Warming, how it’s affecting us and what they could do to make it better.

Global Warming for those who don’t know, is the long-term increase in Earth’s average surface temperature. It is caused by the human-induced increase of greenhouse gases. It is making Earth hotter and making the air we need to survive dirtier.

COP 30 this year was hosted in Brazil for a reason we must be proud of. Since Brazil contains the biggest rainforest in the world, in a way, we represent nature and make sure we protect it from anything that defies it. For this reason, Brasil was chosen to, for one week, be the center of the world.

While all these good things came out of COP 30, something that must be adressed is the fact that while all those world leaders and debaters were speaking against plastic, the whole event was surrounded by it. Not only this but they were also using diesel for things like electrical grid capacity and indicated that even though we, as humans, are trying to discover new ways of making Global Warming a less painful experience for our planet Earth, we will hardly ever change the way we live and the actions and decisions we make that made it all worse in the first place.

In conclusion, COP 30 was a good thing, bringing everyone together and helping us discuss our way to a healthier planet. When Brazil used things that produce pollution, COP 30 made a huge sacrifice to make this event possible, and even though many might believe that this is no excuse, they did it for a good cause.
