Botafogo was founded in 1898, has 2 time champions for the Copa Libertadores and has produced more players for the Brazilian national team than any other club in Rio. Not to forget about Vasco da gama, which was founded in 1898, it was one of the first clubs to sign black and working-class players in Brazil which was revolutionary. Since then Rio’s many versions of football has shown the world how football bridges social, economic and gender divisions.
