The influence of Jazz in our world today by M.E Musa

All the way from the 1920’s, Jazz still holds a very significant imprint in the music world today. Jazz is magical and eternally inspirational. It is a very own definition of rhythm and considered “the master” of improvisation.
There is a very big possibility that you don’t view Jazz in this way. It might be simply the music you listen when it is the only option on the radio, or the type of thing your mother plays in Sunday family lunches. But what if I told you that Jazz is to this day is a big influence to Rock, R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop, and other genres?
Personally, The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite movies (no, it’s not because of Gatsby himself). There is one element that I think makes the production so different from all others. The soundtrack. Although it may seem like all this talk on the Gatsby has nothing to do with Jazz, it would be wrong for me not to mention that most soundtracks were inspired by the style. Hits such as “A Little party never killed nobody” by Fergie have an extremely evident base in jazz. Fergie herself said that many songs today are still being influenced by the style.
So, if you ever wondered if you know jazz, listen to it or enjoy it I can list a few hits which have used jazz as an inspiration. “Find your wings” by Tyler the Creator, “Bang Bang” by Will.i.am, “Apricot Princess” by Rex Orange County, and “The Other Woman” by Lana Del Rey are only some of the thousands of songs I could mention.
Jazz is not only Frank Sinatra, Miles Davies, Billie Holiday, and Louis Armstrong. Jazz encourages, celebrates, and rewards newness, originality, personality, and expressiveness in music. To be honest, jazz can be whatever you want it to be.
And if you think you have never heard or enjoyed it before, you are probably wrong. Jazz is everywhere, and it has planned to stay for a long time.
