By B. Zarzur

As many of you may know, the 5K Run took place on Wednesday the 3rd of October. Many pupils and teachers from different year groups were involved in this super event for the Health and Safety Week. The prep 5s and Form 1s ran 4 laps around the field, which is equivalent to1K, the Form 2s and 3s ran 12 laps around the field (3K) and Form 4 and up, including the teachers, ran the full 5K. In addition to this charitable run, every year new T-shirts are made with Mr Scaff's designs specifically for the race.

The race's history:

The first race took place in 2015: "Never Stop"
The T-shirts were sold and the money went to the charity TUCCA. In this race, only teachers could take part, so most of them did, making the race a huge success!

The second race was in October 2016: “All the way”
The T-shirts were bright pink and were attractive to not only students but parents as well. In addition, the pink represented the awareness raised for "Pink October", that is, the fight against breast cancer.

The third race was in 2017: “Lionheart.”
During the race, the weather was very hot, however, everyone was cheering, running and having fun creating a fantastic atmosphere.

The fourth and last one was now, October 2018: “Lion mode.”
This was one of the most successful 5k runs out of all of them. Over 200 T-shirts were sold and the money went to TUCCA (over 7,000 reais!) The shirts were so highly demanded that the Sports and House Captains had to buy more shirts with Mr Ribeiro's help... that was incredible!

This year's race:
This year, the race was a tremendous success and the T-shirts were all sold out.  The school also decided to go “eco-friendly” and avoid the plastic cups that were used for the runners in the previous years. The teachers and pupils that were going to run were encouraged to bring their own water bottles if they intended to hydrate themselves. There was music on, the atmosphere was excellent, and during the run, sprinklers were used to keep the runners cool. Everybody was very enthusiastic – lap counters, teachers, runners. The whole school was cheering and having a great time!

The winners:

For the P5s and F1s: 1K
1st place: Bernardo Magalhaes (F1)
2nd place: Isabela Anselmo (F1)
3rd place: Adriano Yazigi (F1)

This group did a great job and was one of the biggest categories taking part in the run.

F2s and F3s: 3K
1st place: Lucas Zelmanovits (F3)
2nd place: Daniel Westphalen (F2)
3rd place: Gabriel Cohen (F2)

Although this was one of the smallest categories running the results were amazing and everybody had an incredible time!

F4s, F5s and teachers: the entire 5K
1st place: Mr Davies
2nd place: Mr Puffet
3rd place: Mr Wilson

Overall, this year’s 5K run was an incredible experience for those who took part - runners, volunteers, lap counters and the entire crowd cheering. The number of shirts sold was amazing, the atmosphere was terrific, and everybody's support and cheer added to this fantastic school event! We are all already looking forward to next year's shirt design and of course, the race itself.
