Art HL

Art HL is one of my favourite IB subjects, but, at times, it can also be the most frustrating one. I decided to take Art HL because, even though I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in university yet, I knew I wanted to do something that was art-related, and that is crucial for anyone who is considering art.

Art HL a lot of hard work as it is about the process as much as the final piece. Your thought processes must be clear and well developed in your sketch book, including how your initial idea has been changed and refined to the final project. This includes notes, drawings, research on artists (techniques and intensions) and an acute awareness of your surroundings as anything could be a source of inspiration – this helps you make your work more personal.

You’re required to hand in 8-12 projects, a Process Portfolio and a comparative study, with a minimum of two artists who have inspired some of your own work. Therefore, it is very important to be passionate about the subject, as it is a time-consuming and demanding subject- it is not for everyone, and you should be as hard working as you are passionate about it.
