Even though discovering a universal cancer vaccine or a cure for diabetes seems a prospect for the far away future, we must remember how far medicine and science have come in the past half-century.  Medicine and Science are fields metaphorical to a large hill we have yet to continue climbing. We must value how far we’ve come in medicine to remain hopeful and feel encouraged as to how much farther we will go.

Listed are a few of the top discoveries and developments in medicine until today:
1.    1960: Measles vaccine
2.    1970: 1st “test tube” baby
3.    1980: 1st artificial heart
4.    1990: Medical Lasers
5.    2000: Genome mapping
6.    2010: Restoring sight to the blind

What’s critical for the ongoing successes in Medicine is the involvement of “clinicians, patients, and researchers” and the persistence involved. Research saves lives. Every research executed in the fields of Medicine and Science is vital contributor to further advancements and breakthroughs as they provide fundamental knowledge about how bodily functions happen and each discovery is correlated. As Fabienne Frederickson once said, “Breakthroughs happen when limiting thoughts and behaviors are challenged”.
