The 5K run this year was an enormous success, receiving great support and enthusiasm from all those involved. Over R$7,600.00 was raised for the TUCCA foundation, which surpassed any goals and expectations, fruit of the genuine kindness and altruism present in the St Paul’s community.
The normally empty field was overtaken by a cluster of yellow t-shirts and cheering students as the school gathered for the 5K Run on a warm spring afternoon. After a heartfelt minute of silence for late old Paulean Tancrède, where we all took a moment to acknowledge the real reason we were running or rooting for the runners, Mr. Ribeiro’s voice boomed over the loudspeaker counting down to the start of the race. After a few moments, the track around the field was swarmed with runners, kids and teachers alike. The Run brought out a rare kind of energy, a kind you can feel in the air and that carries with it a sense of pure joy, of being part of something bigger than yourself.
Lap counters cheered on their respective runners, students on the sidelines jokingly threw water at those running by and the press team rushed to capture every moment of this incredible display of enthusiasm and zest. It was a fantastic event, which owes its success to everyone who partook, be it running, counting laps or organizing, and is to be remembered as a magnificent moment in St Paul’s history.
