Fundação St. Paul's

Fundação St. Paul’s is a new non-profit organisation to be launched in the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year, which strives to allocate scholarships for gifted children living in, and possibly even out of, Brazil that normally would not be able to afford to receive an education at St Paul’s School. While the word ‘gifted’ usually has a more straightforward definition to it, the organisation is proud to define it in the broadest manner possible, and so we look for exceptional skills in a range of areas, be it in academic subjects, sports, or the arts.

But while Fundação St Paul’s is a non-profit organisation, it does not define itself as a charity, and, instead, as the medium through which scholars can pursue their academic interests in a fair and enriching way. But that enrichment will not solely be confined to the new scholars, as the whole school will benefit from their contributions to the school environment, either with their special talents or with their alternate perspectives on life.

The process of selecting the first two scholars that will benefit from this opportunity is already underway through partnerships with secondary and tertiary education programs, and when that process is over, the school, with the help of the Student Leadership Team and the Prefects, will start training the candidates so that they are as comfortable as possible when they begin their journey as Form 3’s at St. Paul’s. The ultimate aim of the project is to introduce a minimum of two scholars per year into the St Paul’s community.

The work of the foundation, however, is funded exclusively through the generous donations of its supporters, as it is a separate legal entity from St Paul’s School and cannot rely on fee discounts or funding from the school. To fund each scholar will cost roughly R$120,000 per year, and so the foundation’s goal of having 10 scholars in school at any time will cost up to R$1.5million annually. We ask our readers to contribute in any way possible, be it through donations (money or materials) or volunteering to help with the training of these scholars.

Fundação St Paul’s hopes to provide the future scholars the academic and social environment St Paul’s School is known for, and strives to help them follow their dreams during and after their time at school, as the education they will receive will be with them forever.

The video below contains more information about the project:
