What does your role entail?

As the science and environment prefect, I am responsible for helping to improve the science department.

What was the most stressful part of the Prefect application process and why?

In my opinion, the most stressful part of the process was by far the interview. I get very nervous when I have to speak publicly, and I was worried that all of my responses to the questions were incorrect.

What is the most common misconception people have about the prefects?

People, namely students, seem to think that the prefects don’t actually do anything. This is completely wrong. We are responsible for many aspects of school life, including organizing the sports festival and helping to design the six form centre.

Why did you want to be a prefect?

I wanted to be a prefect because I felt that I embodied the schools' ideals and could contribute to further improve school life.

What would you say to your 12-year-old self?

Enjoy yourself and take advantage of all opportunities available to you.

How does your Prefect role link to your future career?

I intend to pursue medicine, which is strongly linked with the sciences.

What was the hardest question they asked you in your interview?

I was asked, 'What is the worst thing you could imagine happening to you'.

What have the last few months as a Prefect taught you?

How to work collaboratively to fulfill a single goal. However, it hasn’t all been work. We've also had a lot of fun, and even visited Escape60 in order to improve our teamwork.

What is one thing you want to change in school?

I wish that I could change the attitude that some pupils have towards school life. Very few pupils realise how lucky they truly are, and I wish I could teach them to take advantage of every opportunity available to them.

Any advice for prospective prefects?

Be a role model for other students, because these of the type of students they are looking for.
