On Thursday, February 24th, 2022, Ukrainian people were startled by the sounds of sirens and loud crashes. It was revealed to them that Ukraine was under attack from Russia. Russian troops and tanks invaded Ukraine, from all borders, under the order of Putin. Citizens were sheltered in basements and metro stations, and almost half a million Ukrainians were forced to leave their homes and sometimes separate themselves from their families. Neighboring countries have opened borders to people escaping Ukraine, as many tried to cross the borders to Poland and Romania to try to escape.
World leaders have spoken out imposing Putin, including the European commission president and UK prime minister. US president Joe Biden has said, "Putin chose this war and now he and his country will bear the consequences".  People around the globe have started anti-war protests, including the Russian people, despite the risk of arrest. Countries around the world have sent military aid and support to Ukraine, in fear of this invasion turning into a third world war, since this has been one of Europe's largest wars since World War Two.
A city in the south of Ukraine, Mariupol, has been severely affected, having had a lot of bombing, the city is now in ruins. There was a direct hit in a maternal ward and pregnant women and prematernal babies had to be evacuated or were found in the ruins of the hospital. Citizens who used to live in that area say the city does not exist anymore.
People in Ukraine are doing everything they can to escape the miserable situation, spending hours, even days in traffic trying to migrate the country. People who manage to migrate are lucky, and some even die trying. Recorded from March 23rd, there have been almost a thousand deaths and almost two thousand injuries. People in Ukraine are suffering and will continue to suffer until this war ends.
