By: F. Sarkis Every year group has a yearly trip. In Form 3 you will spent three days in the town of Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. This is the first academic trip you will take in St Paul's. During this trip you will make memories that you will remember forever!
The trip will begin 7:00am, where two buses – one for boys and one for girls- will await to depart on a six-hour trip with one stop for lunch at 11:30am – to Paraty. Before you reach the hotel, the school will make one stop at Quilombo do Campinho. There you will listen to a speech from the Quilombo community and have a workshop where you will learn how to hand craft a basket made from straw, which you will keep. After that you will finally reach the Santa Clara hotel. You will be appointed to your rooms and have time to prepare for dinner that will commence at 6pm and finish at 8pm. Later you will gather together and have a quick summary about how your day will be in the next morning. When that ends, you will go to your room at 10pm and turn your lights off at 11pm. In Paraty there are three main activities which you will endure during the three days. Being divided in three groups, Stuart, Windsor and Tudor, you will proceed with each activity. On each of these expeditions you will be expected to do exercises for Geography, English, Historia and Geografia lessons. The first trip I experienced was the boat trip for coastal land use for Geogrphia lessons. After waking up at 7:00am and taking breakfast at 7:30am, a bus will take to the city where you will walk until you reach Paraty’s bay. There you will get into a boat and be given a map in which you will track the root that boat is taking, labeling the islands you pass. You will stop at Ilha da Beixiga and lunch there, afterwards you will return to Paraty. By then it will already be noon where you will have a Downtown activity for Geography. You will walk around the town carrying out a survey to the residents and tourists of Paraty. Soon you will return to the hotel and have dinner and have another follow up for the next day, going to sleep at the same time every night. On the last whole day in Paraty there will be only one activity left for you, the Gold trail. On this, you will go on a pathway and listen to a guide explain the history of the trail. In my opinion it was one of the best activities of the trip. For lunch, you will eat in one of the town's restaurants, Magarida Café. In the afternoon, you will have time for eating ice cream and shopping. Then you will go to the hotel to get ready for your only dinner in the town at Punto DiVino pizzeria. When dinner finishes, you will have some free time to walk around Paraty with your friends and the last day in Paraty will come to an end. At 7:30am on the last day you will finish your final meal at Paraty and commence the check out at 8:10am. You will then depart, and say goodbye to Paraty. On the bus journey home, you will have one stop for lunch and arrive at São Paulo at 6:00pm on a Friday. After a trip that lasted three days came to an end, you will deeply miss the Form 3 trip to Paraty. Image from: 1024px-Paraty_09_2007_59.JPG
