Project Gold is a fundraising event, which raises money to para-athletes who don’t have the same opportunity as other athletes. The project originated in 2016 and, since then, has been a huge success and changed many Brazilian athletes' lives. It is a student-led organization, mainly ran by Form 3s, 4s and 5s. Each year they plan different fundraising events, which areDuring the past weeks, they have been organizing fundraising events, such as selling food at bake sales, selling this year’s Project Gold t-shirt and volunteering to help the Projeto Mãos na Massa.

This year's Project Gold event took place on 30th of March and, as always, was a blast. Students from all year groups along with teachers, parents and even para-athletes participated in this wonderful event. There were also many amusing activities organized by the student-led organization, some of them being a mini golf station, Pique-Bandeira and, of course, the race. Unlike the other years, the competitors had the chance to choose the distance they were willing to run, which ranged from 1k to 10K! Moreover, fruits and water was provided as well as a bake sale to raise even more funds and support the participants.

I interviewed a Form 2 pupils who actively participated in the 2019’s Project Gold event and these were their responses:

QUESTION 1 - What did you think about the race?
ANSWER - I had a lot of fun running with the athletes; the music was very entertaining and motivating. I got tired at the end, but it was all worth it. Even though I didn’t take part in the games after the race, I thought it was very fun to watch. I think that there should be more people involved because it is a very interesting project with a very good cause.

QUESTION 2 - When you get older, would you volunteer for project gold?
ANSWER - I would certainly volunteer; I think it is for a very good cause and is changing many people's lives. I think that they have done a very good job and keep it up! Project gold was very exciting, and I think that more people should be encouraged to get involved because it is for a very good cause.
