THIMUN 2019 was, without a doubt, one of the most memorable conferences
of my life. If I needed to sum it all up in one word it would be revitalizing. At some
point of your MUN career, you will find yourself stuck in a routine and a pattern of
conferences. Don't get me wrong, I am loved each and every conference I've been
to, but it gets to a point that it just seems "normal" and "automatic". THIMUN was the
needed turning point. I do not need to think twice before saying that this conference
was life-changing. From the point in which I received the acceptance email to the
moment in which we landed in Sao Paulo, the experience was a never-ending life
lesson. I was set to the Sustainable Development Commission 2, representing
Belgium, not my particular cup of tea. The issues addressed in the conferences were
constantly challenging me, as they are skills that I have yet to master. They were
very specific areas of environmental issues and bureaucracy played significant role
in it. This committee really pushed me to a point that I had butterflies in my stomach
when I spoke, which rarely happens to me in conferences. This was the adrenaline
needed to refresh my MUN career. Most of all, it was one of the conferences where I
most learned, about the topic itself, and the interpretation of MUN all over the world.
What fascinated me was the different approach students from different nations took
in MUN, and that's the beauty of the UN itself. On top of the enriching debate, we get
the privilege of travelling the world to debate and get to know the wonderful
destination of The Hague and Amsterdam. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity
the school has offered me, I could never repay the lessons I've learned, the friends I
made, the experiences I've been through, and how I grew as a person. All in all,
THIMUN 2019 was life changing and part of who I am today.
