The futsal varsity girls’ team holds the 1st place title for the 2019 SPHSL tournament and is fighting bravely with their teeth and claws to achieve first place this year again. Up to now, it had been a rough tournament as our players sustained some unfortunate injuries and school trips clashed with important games. Nevertheless, our girls played every game with utmost determination and effort to win. The first three games were against Graded, PACA and Chapel in which the scores were 4x2, 4x3 and 7x5, respectively. All games were very close and although we had zero points, the team did not lose hope. The next game was against EAC and our girls had to win in order to have a chance to classify for the semi-finals.

Before the game, the team huddled up for a pep-talk from the coach, Felipe, and were determined to win in order to hold a steady position in the championship. Only a minute after the judge blew the whistle, indicating the start of the game, our little cub, Alice Zelmanovits, scored an incredible goal. Immediately we could see the confidence and determination of the entire team. As the game restarted and the judge blew the whistle, once again, our little cub scored another goal in less than a minute. The entire crowd and bench players cheered her on, as we knew the team would need to be strong, as there was still a lot of time to go and futsal can be a very unpredictable game. However, as they say, 3 is the magic number and so in the third minute Alice scored once again! Although it may not seem like it, it was not an easy game and there were several times in which PACA almost caught up to our lionesses. After 6 goals from Alice, 2 from Estela Westphalen and beautiful assists and defenses from the entire team, our futsal team fought until the very end to end the game with the score of 8x4.

Hopefully, we will soon be able to return to our normal game schedule to keep on battling to classify for the semi-final and to maintain our champions title!
