By S. WeberLast Thursday, on the 2nd of May, the JV girls volleyball team proudly defeated PACA at the JV league semi-finals, earning a well-deserved spot on the tournament’s final. The final will take place after the well know NR tournament, also recognized as Little 8. The Little 8 tournament will take place from the 5th to 8th of May for the JV volleyball boys and JV futsal girls, and from the 8th to 11th of May for the JV volleyball girls and JV futsal boys.
The semi-final made me, as a volleyball layer, learn plenty, not only in relation to team spirit and always playing with a clear and positive mindset, but also learning in which aspects to dedicate my time to improve on. In my opinion, this did not only occur with me but with the whole time. The scoreboard by the end of the game was 2X1. In my opinion, the major change in our game was the will to win the game and move to the semi-finals. This happened by losing the first set. When we lost the first set, we noticed that it wasn’t going to be easy, but it was achievable and we began working even harder to reach our goal. However, we entered the second set with a terrible mindset which caused a series of about ten mistakes which inconsequently gave PACA a ten-point head start. Our coach, Fabio Costa, asked for a break which made us realize our mistakes and pay more attention to the game. It wasn’t easy, in reality, it was extremely hard, but we managed to win the set, which left us 1X1. In volleyball, this score means a third set, also called tie breaker. The third set was pure pressure, not only from our coach but from our peers, which caused us to pay more attention since we were scared to let the team down but at the same time to make foolish mistakes that we would make with a team encouragement. Even with all of the pressure we managed to win the set and celebrate our victory not only as a team, but as a family.
