By: A. Hemnani The Super Bowl is among the highest-rated televised sporting events of all time. Super Bowl Sunday has evolved into an unofficial American holiday where people gather and cheer together. On the 11th of February 2024, the 58th Super Bowl took place in the Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, United states. The Kansas City Chiefs played against the San Franciso 49ers. Despite the 49ers being slight favourites going into the game, the Chiefs beat them 25-22. The game went into overtime when the Chiefs tied at 19-19. Even though the 49ers were ahead 22-19, they couldn't turn it into a win. Patrick Mahomes threw the winning touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman, making the Chiefs back-to-back Super Bowl champions! Mahomes was named MVP (most valuable player) of the Super Bowl for the third time. This is the third win for the Chiefs in the last five years. The game was filled with excitement. The crowd watched closely and cheered. To add to the excitement was the appearance of one of the most famous singers in the world.
Taylor Swift flew in from Tokyo, after her concert, to support her boyfriend, Chiefs' Travis Kelce. Her family and friends including; rapper: Ice Spice, singer: Lana Del Rey and actress: Blake Lively joined her at the stadium. Taylor Swift was cheering on the Chiefs, and, at the end of the game, she went down to the pitch to congratulate him with a massive hug and kiss. This famous relationship has brought many new fans to the NFL and the Chiefs specifically. To some, their relationship seemed “too good to be true”. Right-wing critics were spinning Swift and Kelce-themed conspiracy theories all over. Some critics even claimed their relationship was part of a plot to rig the championship game to help US President Joe Biden, a Democrat, get elected. The spotlight on Swift's closely watched romance with Kelce, who is tight-end for the Kansas City Chiefs grasped the audience's attention. It was a cinematic finish to a football season in which Swift along with her new boyfriend have often taken centre stage. The world-renowned singer's presence at the Super Bowl was such a huge deal that, in a recent poll from Seton Hall University in New Jersey, 41% of Americans aged 18-34 watching the game said that her attendance influenced their decision, or that of someone in their household to watch.
