By L.FarhatOn October 24th the girls’ soccer team played their semi-final against the Giants at EAC. The St. Paul’s girls were apprehensive before the start of the game, as they knew it would be a tough game. However, the game was a constant battle, in which both teams fought extremely hard to win.
During the beginning of the first half, while the St. Paul’s girls were making a dangerous play near their goal, one of EAC’s players made an illegal tackle on Estela, which resulted in a penalty. With that, Estela successfully scored our first goal. The remainder of the first half, for the most part, was equally hard for both teams, with a balanced amount of attacks and shots for the Lions and the Giants. Unfortunately, during the very end of the first half, EAC won a corner kick in which one of their players was able to head the ball beautifully into our goal. Thus, the first half ended with the score of 1x1, meaning that the game was still very unpredictable, as both teams still had a very good chance of winning. Throughout the first part of the second half, our girls clearly had a greater number of attacks and chances to shoot, however, we could not get the ball inside their goal. After several tries, Sofia Schamphelaere received a great pass and did not think twice before shooting, which resulted in a beautiful goal. Sadly, our team made a couple of mistakes, which allowed the Giant’s to score two more goals. The St. Paul’s girls continued to pressure EAC, in hopes of scoring another goal, but, unfortunately, did not succeed. The game ended with the score of 3x2 for the EAC girls who passed onto the final. Both teams played extremely well and it was a close match, however, in the end the Giants were able to win.
