Winter vs Summer: Best Sports For Each Season!

By B. Zarzur

Winter and Summer's sports are very different. They range from activities in the sand to throwing yourself into the snow. Some people prefer skiing down a mountain, whilst others prefer throwing a ball across the net while soaking in the sun. Although both seasons have many fun sports to offer they are completely different.

WINTER

During Winter, there are a variety of sports for you to enjoy the cold. The most common and popular ones are:

- Snowboarding down snow-covered slopes
- Ice skating
- Sledging
- Hockey
- Skiing down the mountains

There are also the risky and different Winter sports:

- Skeleton, which is an Olympic sport; in which a person rides a small sledge (face down and head first) down a frozen track.
- Bobsleigh is also an Olympic sport and consists of a group of two or more people. The teammates run down a twisted, narrow ice track in a sleigh and their objective is to reach the bottom as fast as they can.

Although ‘skeleton’ and ‘bobsleighing’ may sound fun they are very hard and sometimes not the best choice for a Winter sport. Most people say that the best sports for the Winter are skiing, snowboarding and sledging. Aspen, France, Vail and Canada are great destinations to practice these sports.

SUMMER

Although many people enjoy sunbathing at the beach, the sports that summer has to offer are very enjoyable. Some of them are on the sandy beaches, others in the water and some on fields. The most popular among the summer sports are:

- Swimming
- Biking
- Running
- Beach Volley
- Surfing
- Soccer

Some Summer sports are on the beach. Surfing, for example, is very popular in Brazil, Australia, California and Hawaii; surfing consists of big and strong waves, on the other hand, some sports in the ocean need no waves at all and instead, still water – you could also do practice these sports on a lake. You could go kayaking in a lake or sea, or even stand up paddling! Snorkelling and diving are also very fun at the beach and in the ocean, but soccer, being very popular amongst Brazilians, is a sport for the field or sand. Volleyball can be a beach sport or you could play it in a closed court, however, during the hot Summer days, beach volley is very popular. Beach tennis is also played and enjoyed by many people. Overall, some of the best summer sports are swimming, soccer, beach tennis and beach volleyball.

Concludingly, sports throughout these seasons are very fun and enjoyable! Despite the fact that many people like the daring and different sports, the most popular ones for each season are, skiing and snowboarding for Winter, and swimming as well as soccer for Summer.
