By: M Gonçalves In February 2022, Projeto Mãos na Massa began its construction for Diolice’s new home near Guarulhos. Diolice, who has been in a wheelchair since being diagnosed with Leukemia more than 20 years ago, was awarded with her own home due to the NGO’s efforts. The project learned about Diolice’s dire situation when a friend of hers contacted the project and explained Diolice’s current living situation. Over 3 months, 50 volunteers went to the construction site and made great progress in Diolice’s home. Projeto Mãos na Massa motto is “Realizando sonhos tijolo por tijolo”, translating to “Making dreams come true brick by brick”, which was exactly what was done for Diolice, receiving a quality home and decorating it to her liking.
Diolice’s home also accounted for with the assistance of Turma do Jiló, an association that fights for a more inclusive and diverse world, aiming to implement and guarantee Inclusive Education within schools and companies. The funds which are used to purchase the materials used for construction come entirely from donations and events, any support towards the project is greatly appreciated. Gonçalves On Saturday the 25th of June, Projeto Mãos na Massa's collaborative event with the One Goal project took place at Graded School. For those unfamiliar with the One Goal project, it is another non-governmental organization led by St. Paul’s students that focuses on different forms of community service every month. For instance one month they raise school equipment for underprivileged children, in the following month they raise clothes for homeless people, etc. These two NGOs came together and assembled a 2nd world cup, with football games for children of ages 8-12 and for older age categories in 16-22.
The event began at 9:00am and ran until 6:00pm with numerous football matches taking place throughout the day. In the games for the younger category, the participants were St. Paul’s students and children that game from local day care centers, who were also very enthused with the other games they had available, such as, a frisbee competition, a bean bag throwing game, table tennis, and others. Throughout their games, the children’s passion and excitement was explicitly visible, as they cheered, laughed, and gave it their all, in what seemed to them like the official world cup. As for the older category, the players were split into 8 teams, all representing a different sponsor who donated to the project. The 8 companies featured in the sponsorships were: eB Capital, Patria Investimentos, Alta Diagnósticos, Track & Field, Bolsa de Imóveis, Natural One, TechCorp and Genial Investimentos. Aside from each team representing their respective sponsorship on their jersey, countless banners displayed the logos of these sponsored companies throughout the school. After a series of competitive games, team Alta were crowned champions after going undefeated in the tournament, all of which was announced in the final presentation held on a stage before the players, their families and spectators. Overall, through the tournament entry fee, a variety of foods and drinks sold, and donations, Projeto Mãos na Massa raised R$ 114,723.00 which will certainly be very useful in continuing to aid their immensely valuable causes. Also, there were more than 300 people that participated in the day of the event, including athletes, parents, volunteers and other spectators. Gonçalves Back in June 2017, four F4s who are now old pauleans took part in the world challenge expedition. Alongside a few other students, they rebuilt a primary school in Tanzania over a two-week period. The immense joy in the faces of the local children inspired these four pupils to initiate a project that would serve a similar purpose here in São Paulo. Eventually, they came up with an idea, they would build homes for disabled people living in precarious situations. Since the founding of the project, 6 homes have been built, as well as a playground for a school and one for a cancer institution. Recently, the project has made a partnership with Instituto Coexistencia to build homes with renewable materials and in much less time. The equipment and materials used for these constructions are bought using money raised in events as well as donations.
