By: A. Wichmann This theory suggests that most Stephen King novels, like ‘Matilda’, ‘Coraline’, ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘Gravity Falls’ share a universe. So, the root of our theory it going to start with an ability first introduced to the world in one of Stephen king's most famous novels, ‘The Shinning’. For those who haven't seen ‘The Shining’ or read the novel, it is about a man taking his family to a hotel so he can look after it. However, it turns out that the hotel is haunted by the ghosts of the last man who overlooked the hotel and the caretaker’s, both who murdered their families. So, the character whose name is Jack, starts to go insane and attempts to kill his son Danny.
In the middle of the book, we see Danny exhibit a few interesting abilities which later leads to why the book was named “The Shinning” revealed by Dick Halloran. The reason I mention “The Shinning” is because it links to another novel made by Stephen king knwon as “IT”. The novel which takes place in Derry, Maine follows the story of a group of kids that consist of Billy, Beth, Stan, Richie, Ben, Eddie and Mike who discover the troubled past of their town while being attacked by a shapeshifting clown called Pennywise. The connection starts with an event that happened 27 years before the events of the novel, the fire at the black spot. The reason I bring this up is because Dick Halloran (the overlook hotel’s cook) was in there when it happened and was the one who saved Mike’s father. Another big connection held by the two novels that will set out multiverse is the fact that the “losers club” (the main characters of the IT novel) possess the ability to shine, this is shown through the novel when Bill starts to telepathically talk to a turtle (who is the arch enemy of pennywise) about how to destroy it. another piece of evidence is that by the end of the book Mike is in the hospital while the rest of the “loser's club” go to fight pennywise. But it is shown that there is someone trying to kill Mike, while in the sewer they sense that Mike is in danger and Bill tells them to “send him out power.” Also, “IT’s” characters who have the shine tend to come from an abusive background. In “The Shinning” Jack’s wife tells the nurse that is taking care of Danny after an incident that during some of Jacks Torrance's drunken outbursts he used to dislocate Danny's arm. And it is also confirmed that Dick Halloran was a victim of abuse from his grandfather. But the evidence of this shared universe does not stop there, another big evidence is that IT may be the evil in the overlook hotel too. Firstly, we see that It fears “The Shinning” because the person wielding it might engage in the ritual that may defeat Pennywise and the “losers club” possess the Shinning. So, in the novel, he tells the town bully Henry bowers to kill the “losers club”. And we also see this play out in “The Shinning”, when Jack is locked in the freezer he is instructed by the ghost of the last caretaker to kill his family. But just when you think this might be a hallucination we see the beings of evil give a weapon to them. In the case of Henry, we see Pennywise give him his lost switchblade, and when it came to Jack we see the ghost open the door to the freezer and gave him an axe. But how does this apply to Roald Dahl novel “Matilda?”. Well, we see that she possesses very clear telepathic abilities and came from a family that does not care for her, so we can assure that she has the shining. And, in the book, we are introduced to the cruelest principal of all time, Mrs. Trunchbull. Throughout the book, we see that she constantly abuses children and she is feared by all the students. This could mean that Mrs. Trunchbull is IT taking the form of a mean teacher. But once Matilda starts to demonstrate her powers we can see that she is so terrified that she leaves town for good, suggesting that IT feared Matilda`s ability to shine and thus went somewhere else to eat children. In the case of “Coraline”, “Gravity Falls” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street” I am suggesting that the other mother, Bill Cipher and Freddy Krueger are the same species as Pennywise the clown. First, we can see that Freddy Krueger is able to shapeshift as seen through his many appearance's and specifically the form he took as a child murderer. He can also modify his look to include burned marks and a finger knife glove to look scarier. So, we can safely assume that he depends on fear just like Pennywise. We also see that he has a form of an invertebrate. In “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3” he took the form of a giant worm to kill one of the characters and in “Freddy vs Jason” we see him take the form of a caterpillar. His enemy may be considered his mother, who appears to control him and even trap him. And finally, there is Bill Cipher, now we never see him depend on a human emotion we can see that he loves crazy things as evidenced through his crazy antics and sadistic thoughts. We never see him shapeshifting, but we have seen him possess people. When it comes to invertebrate form we see him chase down the main characters in the form of a giant spider. So, he is also a confirmed IT. So, there you have it the IT universe explained. And we have seen many theories that connect the movies I mentioned to other movies such as gravity falls connection to rick and Morty and Freddy's connection to Jason Voorhees.
