2018 Trends

MAKEUP: glossy everything!
From lips to skin to eyes, the more shine the better. Wave goodbye to 2017’s total matte craze and welcome this year's shiny sensation, where lip glosses will be the new liquid lipsticks, highlighters will be the new powders, and glossy eyelids will be the new eye shadows. 

​TRAVEL
2018 is the year of traveling to tropical destinations. Places like Bora-Bora and Hawaii will be packed, even more so than usual, and envy-worthy pictures are bound to be flooding up your timeline in all social media platforms. I mean, who wouldn’t love a nice, warm, relaxing getaway, right? 

HAIR: a more natural approach
This year’s hair is all about keeping it natural and simple, a huge contrast from the extensive colourful trends we have seen in the past few years. From hair colour to texture, 2018 is all about sticking to your roots!  We will witness a lot of styles along the lines of natural curls, loose waves, sun kissed highlights and dirty blonde this year, but probably not a whole lot of the previous year’s platinum blonde or crazy rainbow hair do's. 

STYLE: retro
You may have noticed that polaroid cameras, diners, typewriters, 'John Lennon' style sunglasses, video recorders, striped socks, neon signs, arcades, record players, Edison bulbs, older camera filters, vinyl discs, 90's style clothes, gumball machines, among other vintage things (the list could go on forever) were starting to gain an increase in popularity in 2017, and 2018 promises a huge comeback for these retro items. 

FOOD: Poke bowls
Did you know 'Poke' is a Hawaiian word for 'slice' or 'cut'? The delicious dish, which consists of a raw seafood salad, served as an appetiser or main course, will be huge this year! If you haven't tried it yet, I suggest you do. I can guarantee you that it will not be your last time eating this delicious combination of foods. 

GADGET: Apple home pod
Technology has ruled over our lives for quite some time now, and for every new year, it is almost just as expected as it is exciting for high tech companies such as Apple to release their new inventions that will totally blow our minds. For this year, we can with no doubt say that personal home systems are what is hot in the market! They do anything from answering your questions, to playing your favourite songs, and scheduling appointments, and are a huge help on your day-to-day routine. . 

ACCESSORY: high-end sneakers
This trend is all about drifting the focus to another part of your body: your feet. It gives off the traditional sneaker look, but with a fun twist: by having one luxury piece in your outfit, it creates the illusion that all your clothes are of the same standard. Plus, these go perfectly with anything: jeans, skirts, shorts, tees, jackets, sweatpants, dresses, hoodies, rompers... you name it. 

FASHION: pastel colours
British Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, among other sources, have all named this year the year of the pastel colours, stating that they are bound to make a prominent appearance both on the runway and on our everyday lives, especially come the warmer seasons.
