Guide to: Morocco

Morocco. If I had to describe it in one word, it would simply be impossible. I say this because it is unlike anything I have ever experienced and all of its wonders could never fit in one adjective only. Every corner you turn to is absolutely mesmerizing, filled with magic and diversity. Where the modest souk markets and the most extravagant architecture meet the eye. This Northwestern African country is definitely worth a visit.

Architecture - Riads:
Moroccan architecture is, in my opinion, is very underrated. This is because its beauty lies within the commonly ancient constructions rather than on their exterior, therefore, it can be somewhat deceiving. In order to appreciate its beauty, it is recommended to explore the well-known Medinas (the most ancient parts of cities such as Casablanca or Marrakesh) and keep an eye out for the Riads, which are amazing, large traditional houses.

In many occasions, their exterior is very unattractive, made of terracota tones and very ancient raw materials. On the other hand, their interior include explosions of bright colours and divine pillars and tilework on the huge, sunlit walls.
The souks - world’s most famous markets:
The Souks play a very important part in Moroccan culture and it is a truly exotic experience. Essentially, they are Arab markets or bazaars where you  can find absolutely everything that comes to mind. Cars cannot access the area in oder to preserve the ancient and traditional atmosphere of the souk and the tightly packed streets are filled with merchants and tourists alike. From food, to beautiful tapestry, to shoes and pottery, it is a maze of diversity and the essence of Moroccan culture. If your sense of direction is not the best, there are local guides available who knows just the right spot to grab a bite to eat of take a snapshot of your favorite store. It is a great place to spend the day if you enjoy shopping or taking pictures. As there is a lot of walking to be done, just be sure to wear comfortable shoes!
Desert D’Agafay:
Looking for a magical experience? What about a camel ride though the orange dunes of the Agafay? Followed by the mystical sunset on top of the mountains and the most traditional fine dining? Be sure not to miss out on this breathtaking evening. Located just 40 minutes away from the city of Marrakesh, the guided tour though the Agafay desert is without a doubt a mind-blowing experience. You can choose to spend a night or two at luxurious tents if you want  the whole Saharawi (natives) experience. The place counts on phenomenal views and a very well-planned infrastructure for meals etc. This experience is the perfect combination of adventure, fine dining and relaxing.
Morocco’s population is caring and welcoming towards tourists, since it makes up a significant part of the country’s economy. They speak and understand Arab, French and English and so communication is not something to be concerned about. Morocco is enjoyable for friends groups, families and couples alike and counts on endless possibilities to exhibit their captivating way of life!

Indispensable things which didn't exist 10 years ago

SPOTIFY  - LAUNCHED 2008 -
As of June 2018, Spotify had over 83
million paying subscribers worldwide. Nowadays it is very hard to encounter someone who listens to music which isn`t via Spotify. Being a teenager in 2018 means music is a great part of your livelihood, teenagers listen to music when they wake up, on their way to school, in school, when they're taking a shower, studying etc... With the surge of Spotify, listening to music became much more efficient, the app creates its own playlists which you can access and choose according to your situation and mood, it enables you to see the top songs worldwide, podcasts, livestreams and much more. With all that Spotify has to offer, listening to music was made almost impossible to endure in in any platform which isn`t Spotify, it`s hard to imagine life without it. We would listen to music on Itunes which required us to purchase songs individually, or  Youtube which wouldn`t let you download any songs, and if you were unlucky enough to download any bad apps your cellphone might have caught a virus.

UBER - Launched in 2009 -
The creation of Uber transportation has been made something of extreme simplicity to those who don’t own a car 24/7. Uber enabled the use of public transportation to be safer, by using the app your location and activity inside the vehicle as well as the driver's information is registered on your phone, therefore making the whole experience of using public transport much safer. It also created a new job and employed thousands of people in an easy way, as becoming an Uber driver is so simple since it only requires you to download the app and insert a few details. It is very hard to even remember how we used to move around, we had to call cabs, most times the cabs would take hours to arrive with no previse prediction of the arrival and journey time. We are so used to just clicking a button and having a uber in our front in less than 5 minutes that remembering life without it looks extremely complicated.

 INSTAGRAM Launched in 2010
It is shocking to remember a time where we wouldn`t scroll on our feeds every day, put stories of our every move, and know exactly what all our followers were doing every second. Instagram has created a new part of our lives in this world where everyone knows everything everyone is doing each second. We have information about everyone and have access to so much information about the world. It is weird to remember that during the holidays we would travel and wouldn’t even know or merely care to know what other people were doing. Instagram has turned into a type of ID for the society, people recognize us by our Instagram profile, we judge and interpret other people by what we see on their Instagram, it puts us ‘’on the map’’ whoever doesn`t have a Instagram almost doesn’t really exist no one that doesn’t directly know them doesn’t know who they are. There are over 1 billion users on Instagram where most people spend on average 53 minutes or more per day.

Guide to ice cream shops in São Paulo

  1. Davvero Gelato Tradizionale

Davvero has won several different prizes as the best ice cream shop in São Paulo thanks to its 100% natural gelatos. Also, they follow the traditional production methods of an Italian ice cream only utilizing fresh and quality ingredients. The shop’s unique signature is the personalized biscuit that is accompanied by the ice cream and is one of the most memorable aspects of the whole experience. Between the wide variety of flavours of gelatos my favourites are fior di latte and banana com gianduia.

Locations: Rua Pais de Araujo 129, Shopping Iguatemi, Av Sabiá 788, Shopping Market Place

  1. Bacio di latte

Bacio di latte is specialized in Italian style gelato, where the ice creams are made with fresh milk, organic sugar and typical Brazilian fruits. The flavours are divided in three groups, creams, fruits and chocolates including the most wanted: pistachio di bronte, nutellina and passion fruit.

Most known locations: Rua Bela Cintra 1829, Av Rouxinol 575, Rua Oscar freire 136, Shopping Pátio Higienópolis, Shopping JK iguatemi.

  1. Le Botteghe di Leonardo

In the Le Botteghe di Leonardo ice cream parlour all ingredients used to make their product are selected seasonal fruits, without the use of industrial paste, flavouring and food colouring. They offer delicious vegan, lactose-free and sugar-free ice creams including most of the fruit based ones and dark chocolate. If going to indulge in this ice cream, I would advise you to choose pistachio or nocciola, as they are the best in my opinion.

Locations: Oscar Freire 42, Rua Bandeira Paulista, 387 and Rua Armando Penteado, 56.

  1. Cuor di Crema

Cuor di Crema is another ice cream shop that makes Italian Gelato and does not use any addition of flavouring, dyes and preservatives, assuring its legitimacy. Also, they are kept away from the light and oxygen in aluminium recipients to preserve its impeccable texture.  In-between all of the flavours, I would choose the crema, pistachio or chocolate ice cream with the choice of a chocolate filled cone.

Locations: Rua Adolfo Tabacow 260 and Shopping Vila Olímpia

  1. Ben and Jerry’s

Ben and Jerry’s is a huge chain of ice cream shops that was established in Burlington, Vermont in 1978 and has recently opened in São Paulo becoming very famous between Paulistanos. Also, although their production process is not handcrafted they use very carefully chosen ingredients. The most appreciated ice creams by consumers are New York Super Fudge Chunk, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chunky Monkey.

Locations: Oscar Freire 957, Avenida Paulista 2073 and Shopping Morumbi, including most supermarkets which sell the ice creams to be eaten at home.

Venom Review

Picture
Venom, a movie inspired by Marvel Comics, is about an alien species, also known as symbiotes, that arrive on Earth due to a spacecraft crash. They are transported by a bio-engineering corporation called Life Foundation and are taken to a research facility. Its notorious leader is called Carlton Drake. These symbiotes 'infect' a host and often kill them. However, if the host is compatible, they won’t kill it but instead become part of it! Investigative reporter Eddie Brock is infected by a symbiote called Venom and “luckily” is a compatible host. Gradually, Eddie learns how to deal with his infection while the company attempts to capture the symbiote for further research.

The protagonist of the movie, Eddie Brock, is interpreted by award-winning actor Tom Hardy. The character is a tad bit irrational but at the same time very courageous. He is willing to find evidence to prove that Life Foundation is doing the wrong (that it performs illegal experiments on homeless people). Consequently, this gets Brock into trouble.

But how good is the film?

Despite not being Marvel's biggest success, it is surprisingly great. The interactions between men and the symbiote throughout the movie are extremely interesting. Both start of by having hostile interactions with one another and eventually manage to get along since they need to work together to achieve the same goal! At times, these interactions are quite funny (for example when the symbiote says simple things like “EAT” spontaneously) and add a comedic flair to the movie.

Overall the film combines action, a good deal of comedy, some horror and mystery aspects as well and, is topped off with great special effects. All these factors prove that Venom is indeed an all-in-one movie.

We just want to make a mention to Stan Lee (whose original name is Stanley Marley Lieber) who passed away on the 12th of November 2018 at the age of 95. He made cameos in every single Marvel movie and, most importantly, Stan Lee was an American comic book writer who was commonly known for his work with Marvel. Some of his famous works are the Fantastic Four, Spider Man, The Avengers, X-Men and The Inhumans.
