2023 Social Media expectations

Of course, nobody knows for sure what will come in 2023, especially for social media apps but here are a few expectations and changes for big apps such as Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.

As it tries to keep up with the most recent consumption patterns and behaviors, Instagram has been in confusion

Instagram, which is copying TikTok at every turn in an effort to stay ahead of the competition, recently announced that it has surpassed 2 billion monthly active users.

But will it continue to work? Can Instagram's status as a crucial social app be secured by duplicating every trending feature from every trending app, or are users already becoming sick of the repetition and the cluttering of the once-simple, photography-focused platform?

What's likely to happen next on the app is as follows: more AI-recommended content and more Reels, next level integrations, AR and more interactive ads, and live shopping.

This is the most difficult scenario to foresee since, under new Chief Elon Musk, who on earth knows what will happen next?

Musk has outlined several vague proposals, none of which appear to be set in stone, and it is also widely believed that he intends to change the whole management and engineering teams at the app. This implies that anything is possible and that there are no real precedents from Twitter's past.

These forecasts could therefore be completely wrong, but based on what Musk has so far demonstrated, predictions are: bigger subscription push, additional verification ticks, variable algorithms, trial and error, the opportunity for payments, and longer tweets.

Pinterest has experienced yet another year of ups and downs, but it currently appears to be on a more consistent upward trend.

After experiencing a significant increase in usage because of the COVID lockdowns, Pinterest's audience then started to largely revert to the mean as physical stores reopened. However, under the leadership of new CEO and former Google commerce chief Bill Ready, the company is now resuming its product discovery/eCommerce push.

What the future holds for Pinterest's potential is as follows: international expansion, refined search and discovery, streamlined listing process, improved AR capture and display options, and live-stream shopping.

There is a lot happening as usual, and the Elon Musk/Twitter situation really shakes things up and adds a new dimension of unpredictability to the area. As technology develops new changes will occur yearly.
