It’s tough to love our clothes and keep wearing them for longer when we are faced with a tempting array of brand new items. But, before you are about to head out, spare a thought for the impacts of the Fashion Industry in the world today.

Studies have shown that about 85% of the world’s clothing brands are targets of fast fashion. Basically, fast fashion is a term which expresses how inexpensive clothing are produced rapidly by mass-market retailers in response to the latest trends. The stress levels of workers rise since there’s a lot of pressure to reduce production costs, and to get a product from design to shop floor as rapidly as possible. Companies end up cutting environmental and social corners, leading to a range of drawbacks both to the environment and to the workers of the company, including water pollution, sexual abuse in the workplace, and an unnecessarily large carbon and energy footprint.

To minimize these senseless practices, consumers may reconsider their choice of brands. I have chosen 4 brands which are revolutionizing the fashion industry by making it more efficient, eco-friendly and most importantly, ethical.

1. Reformation - https://www.thereformation.com
Based In: US
Product Range: Apparel, outerwear and swimwear
Price Range: $$
Honestly, one of my all-time favorite brands because 1) their clothes are absolutely stunning, and 2) the brand itself is sustainable. Their factories use the most effective, eco-friendly and pro-social technologies and practices they can get. Also, they invest in green building infrastructure to minimize waste produced, water usage and energy footprints. The company tracks their environmental footprint by adding up the pounds of carbon dioxide emitted, and gallons of water used. Plus, they recycle or donate their textile scraps whenever possible. But in all honesty, their clothes are crafted in so much detail which makes them impossible to not love!

2. Patagonia - http://www.patagonia.com/home/
Based in: US
Product Range: Mostly outerwear
Price Range: $$

Patagonia is one of the world’s most famous and respected outdoor brands out there (pun intended)! They make sure that their products are safely and ethically executed. The company is carefully revising their entire supply chain to reduce the environmental impact of their production. The brand provides an array of products such as jackets, fleeces, hats, boots and much more!

3. Everlane - https://www.everlane.com/
Based in: US
Product Range: Men and Women’s apparel
Price Range: $-$$
If you’re shopping on a budget, Everlast is your perfect match. Their ethically-made and affordable basics come with a bold twist, easy to dress up or dress down! Their main focus is to design basics which you will use for years!

4. Stella McCartney: https://www.stellamccartney.com/
Based in:  UK
Product Range: Men and Women’s apparel
Price Range: $$$
The company doesn’t use any leather or fur in their designs, making it a leader in sustainable luxury fashion. The brand offers a range of products such as sustainable eyewear, eco-friendly handbags and organic cotton dresses. What more can we ask for?
